Embryo Transfer

Embryo Transfer is in my opinion one of the most exciting processes of artificial reproduction. It is the one process that can help any breeder to increase the genetic gain in his flock at a rapid pace. It has to be done with great care and only animals with SUPERIOR GENETICS and NO FUNCTIONAL FAULTS should be used as DONOR animals.

Embryo Transfer is the process whereby superior donor ewes are multiovulated and then artificially inseminated to produce fertilised embryo’s.

These embryo’s are then surgically removed at 5 to 6 days after insemination and then laparoscopically transferred to synchronised recepient ewes to establish a surrogate pregnancy.
